DESCRIPTION

  • This trainer comes with three components, namely, an SMA connectorised 660 nm FO LED, a matching phototransistor and an SMA-connectorised one-meter optical fiber PMMA fiber patch cord.
  • CMOS Transceiver Module is to transmit and receive CMOS driven waveforms/signals via the optical fiber medium.
  • This trainer is supplied as a fully assembled and tested, single-sided glass epoxy printed circuit board (PCB).
  • To make the system operational, a regulated power supply of +5 Vdc and a CMOS/TTL compatible signal source are provided.
  • An oscilloscope will also be required to study the signals.
  • Some components have been mounted on the trainer, to facilitate easy change, by the user, to achieve desired performances.
  • Speeds in excess of 100 KHz and distances over 20 meters can be achieved. The realization of a fiber optics digital transmission trainer using a CMOS Transceiver Module, The optical output from the LED is looped back to the detector via the PMMA patch cord. Some of the studies one can carry out on the trainer are:
  • DC characteristics of transmission system (ILED vs Ip)
  • Rise-time pulse width distortion (ILED vs Trise) 
  • Fall-time pulse width distortion (ILED vs Trise)
  • Propagation delay Tp and Optimum Po for minimum pulse width distortion. This trainer is fully assembled and tested, single sided glass-epoxy PCB of with multi-colour legend printing and necessary test points are provided for measurement and terminals are provided for patching the circuit. Detailed step-by-step instruction manual will be provided along with the trainer.
